The author of the sculpture and film “Beyond. Position. Way.” refrains from elaborate forms in favour of simpler symbols that are understandable to the viewer. Shoes with a heel shape resembling a red Soviet star hurt the artist with every step: an attribute of femininity that turns out to be a tool of discipline and control. In this way, Ala Savashevich highlights the differences in the women’s situation dependent on the geopolitics. The work is also a commentary on the everyday life experienced by people from the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe as they face stereotypes and prejudices.

The sculpture and the film will be on view from April 24 till the end of May. 

The sculpture is on display in the Preview Gallery, available 24 hours a day, while the film can be viewed on the Screen during the opening hours of the Union Square City Shopping building.
