you'll find out in your own time

2022, acrylic ink from airbrush, canvas, 200 x 300 cm

you'll find out in your own time is a painting based on the artist’s personal experience of being arrested and charged. After his release from detention, the artist recuperates in his apartment in Warsaw’s Tarchomin district. A housing estate surrounded by greenery and a high-rise apartment briefly give him a sense of calm and anonymity. This soothing view from the window is nevertheless disturbed by the distant glow of red and blue police lights, which revive fear, anxiety, and memories of that day. Being in public space—whether a park or the street—also triggers tension. The painting becomes a means of working through these emotions, while simultaneously serving as a gesture of solidarity with those who have experienced violence at the hands of the state. The title of the work refers to an atmosphere of uncertainty, while its message echoes the Women’s Strike slogan: you will never walk alone.

Adam Kozicki

b. 1992, Warsaw

Painter. He graduated from the Faculty of Graphic Arts and the Faculty of Painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. His painting serves as a documentation of the problems we face as a society, as well as an expression of refusal to allow them to be forgotten. In his work, he repeatedly returns to themes connected with the political transformation and its reforms. After the experience of being detained during a protest and held in custody, Kozicki created a series of works addressing the ambiguous relationship with authority and its representatives. Subsequently, the artist engaged with the humanitarian crisis on the Polish–Belarusian border, exposing the dramatic situation of refugees. Kozicki paints with acrylic ink applied to canvas using an airbrush. The shapes and figures in his paintings reference the aesthetics of video games, comic-book panels, and B‑grade horror cinema. He lives and works in Warsaw.
