Grupa Twożywo
1998–2011
Warsaw-based artistic duo established in 1998 by Krzysztof Sidorek and Mariusz Libel. They began operating in 1995 with Robert Czajka as the Pinokio group. Mainly concerned with public space as an area of social communication, the methods and media they employed—stencils, stickers, large-format murals—were addressed to random passers-by as well as web surfers. They created a series of animations titled Captain Europa in collaboration with musician Patryk Zakrocki. They use words (or rather slogans) in their work, looking to match them with correct graphic and semantic symbols. They received the Polityka Passport Award in 2006. Grupa Twożywo existed until 2011, and their complete archive is now available online.

Words combined with simple graphic symbolism and a limited colour palette have become Twożywo’s trademark. Their projects continue to astonish with humour and accuracy of observation, subversive word games a commentary on current reality and emotions of the public. Lude et Labora was shown in billboard form in Słubice, Warsaw and Wrocław, and as part of the Light Work exhibition developed by Galeria Raster for the Terra Polska festival at Berlin’s Kulturbrauerei in 2004.
