Tired of reality. Conversations with the artists
A return to surrealistic poetics - the “tired of reality” as in the title - is a clear trend in Polish contemporary art. Why have young artists turned away from the world surrounding them? And does their attitude reflect the return of decorative and easy art – or on the contrary – is it an expression of the necessity to rethink existing models of artistic engagement?
The auhtor, Jakub Banasiak, talks to the most important „new surrealists” (Tymek Borowski, Tomasz Kowalski, Przemysław Matecki, Paweł Śliwiński, Jakub Julian Ziółkowski), and with Piotr Janas, a painter who anticipated the surrealistic approach in Polish art in the 21st century. The material is complemented by a discussion with Hanna Rechowicz on the surrealistic story in the works of Edward Krasiński.
