Dorota Buczkowska's exhibition "Tickling the palate"

Dorota Buczkowska, Bez tytułu 2013, olej na płótnie, 100x80 cm

We would like to invite you to the Starter Gallery where Dorota Buczkowska's work from the collection of the ING Polish Art Foundation will be shown.

Dorota Buczkowska’s exhibition Tickling the palate focuses on painting. It is the medium that in the artist's previous activity, contrary to her favourite installation and video, always served an auxiliary function.
Buczkowska’s new artistic forms, neither completely organic nor fully realistic, are already familiar to the viewer from her earlier drawings. Yet, they undergo further metamorphosis, opting for absolute abstraction, and the artist’s precise and careful way to represent a detail is replaced with a nonchalance of a simple painterly gesture.

In Buczkowska’s art, the line between what we perceive as gentle, noble and beautiful, and as disturbing, strange and even dangerous, is extremely thin. She demonstrated this strategy, for example, in her installation in which she used gunpowder and paraffin to create a marble-like floor.

The exhibition Tickling the palate balances on this edge, and reminds us that behind every emotional reaction lies a sum of physical stimuli and a chain of chemical reactions.
