“Works on paper: monotypes, drawings, playing with fire and smoke, are a kind of notebook to me, a space where I can afford to make quick and risky moves,” says Zamojski. “I like monotyping, an easy technique but also one that often slips out of control. Printing ink has an organic quality, it reminds me of resin or tar: it deeply penetrates the structure of the paper. At the same time, it lacks painterly qualities – there are no halftones, no colour spectrum. In this sense, it is the perfect medium for me. The monotype created on the cover of a Patricia Highsmith book is precisely the effect of such a typical, quick and laconic, procedure,” he adds.
