The Painter's Eye

At the centre of Grzegorz Sztwiertnia’s attention is the human body, its imperfection and randomness. The artist willingly takes on the role of the Renaissance artist-come-scientist who persistently investigates the nooks and crannies of the human machinery and isolates its different parts in his artistic visions. The five-piece series was made as a continuation of Sztwiertnia’s The Painter’s Eye After Removal of Cataract from the Cornea – to See Better, inspired by a serious surgical procedure. In each of the paintings, the eye – the painter’s organ and work tool – has been represented in a highly decorative manner and were it not for the title, one might not recognise it amongst the colour circles.
