“At some point, I developed an aversion to all kinds of representations of people or things. I thought that competing in any way with the all-deforming hand against photography and film was inevitably pretentious. I decided to paint using simple forms and content expressed in words,” says Paweł Susid about his geometric paintings. And he adds, commenting on this specific piece: “I painted I Confuse Stażewski with Strzemiński in order to confirm my method of communicating with the viewer." This is one of the early versions, other ones are being held in the National Museum in Szczecin, the Muzeum Sztuki in Łodź, and in private collections. “The painting now lives a life of its own. I know from the many questions and comments about it that it also fulfils other tasks and is understood in many different ways,” says Susid.
