Once again Sawicka presents a banal phrase in a manner which develops new meanings. The viewer begins to wonder about the expression’s source and message: what is the disturbing “zero pleasure” supposed to mean? An excerpt from one of the artist’s notes may offer a suggestion: “Restriction and confinement. Security and control. Voluntary renouncement of privileges in return for partial access to certain rights. Microscopic wounds, illusory tragedies, and all the fuss about nothing.”
