"America is not Ready for This" is a video based on wide research by Karol Radziszewski and interviews with gallery owners, curators and artists associated with the art scene of the 70’s. The project was inspired by Natalia LL, an important neo-avant-garde personage, who stayed in New York for several months. The narration of the film is based on statements, often contradictory, of persons remembering her stay and activities in the United States. The narration also raises questions about gender, feminist and conceptual art. Another important theme of the project is the issue of artists from Eastern Europe aspiring to exist in Western art. Although the project is based on the statements of those involved in artistic movements of the 70’s, it is largely a modern self-portrait. It raises questions about the functioning of Eastern European artists in the global art world after the fall of the Iron Curtain.
