Landscapes and Monochromes ‘09 is a series of collages on canvas created by Anna Ostoya using economic diagrams and statistics from daily newspapers from all over the world, hence the works are faded pink, gray and blue hues. As the collages are very precise, the viewer can easily read the tables. The information is visible, but its’ sense is lost. ”Landscapes and Monochromes ‘09” are rooted in two artistic practices. On one hand they can be perceived as abstract works relating to the real world via economic analyses. On the other hand, they are close to minimalistic and conceptual art, which often includes a strong political voice. The works gain additional value by relating to a specific economic and political situation, in which they were created. The date in the title brings to mind the global recession. The works were presented for the first time at the Financial District Exhibition at the ISCP in New York in 2009.
