Painting for Valerie

Fijałkowski’s painting is concise, poetic, and instinctive. It is dominated by abstract geometric forms, while firmly emphasising spiritual issues. Rather than reflecting an interest in materiality, these paintings demonstrate to the viewer that the world does not end with practical objects and matters. Such is also the intimate series of Paintings for Valerie, devoted to the artist’s wife. The space and metaphysical quality of the representation is achieved by means of light. The pastel, nearly monochrome canvas is a microcosm open to interpretations. The possibility of a subjective reading is as important as harmony, colour effects, and composition.
