The photographs from the Family series are a radical example of Deskur’s interest in the mysterious nature of interaction between people living in close relationships. Two photographs show children pretending to be bloodthirsty monsters. The gesture of rescaling the pictures changes the meaning of the otherwise innocent childish game. The large format causes the children’s figures to become much closer to what we regard as dangerous and wild. Anger and aggression in place of the expected innocence – Deskur plays with emotions and symbols. Mystification and the credibility of representation are frequent motifs in the artist’s work.
