Rafał BujnowskiBORN 1974, Wadowice
Bujnowski’s paintings are not ordinary canvases but micro-models of artworks. He manipulates them so that they reveal meanings depending on the ambiance in which they are shown. Besides painting, he is also an author of videos, installations, and artistic actions. He has graduated from the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts' Faculty of Graphic Arts, has studied architecture at the Cracow University of Technology. Co-founder (besides, among others, Marcin Maciejowski and Wilhelm Sasnal) of Grupa Ładnie, an informal artist collective that grew out of opposition against the academic philosophy of painting. In 1998-2001, he ran Galeria Otwarta [Open Gallery] which used several billboards in downtown Cracow as its exhibition space. Winner of the prestigious Kunstpreis Europas Zukunft (2005).
