Maurycy Gomulicki

BORN 1969, Warszawa

Since the famous exhibition Pink Not Dead! at the CCA Ujazdowski Castle in Warsaw (2006), pink has been the artist’s trademark. Gomulicki uses colour in many of his pieces, which are inspired by pop culture and vintage visuals, with a particular focus on the era of communism in Poland. Gomulicki practices photography, video, animation, applied graphics, as well creating objects and installations. He is a graduate of the Warsaw Academy of Fine Arts' Faculty of Graphic Arts, where in 1992 he earned a degree in applied graphics under Prof. Rafał Strent with an annex in painting under Prof. Jerzy Tchorzewski. He has also studied at the Barcelona University’s Facultat de Beaux Arts, and at the Nuova Accademia de Belle Arti in Milan.

Sequences in Colour. Red.

1997 / cibachrome / 34,5 x 50,5 cm / no. 0092 1/ 7 Wróć
Description

The artist overexposed photographic film and then cross-processed it, achieving extremely interesting colour, contrast, and texture of the objects, which look as if viewed through half-shut eyes. The nature of the work comprising the series is erotic – the shells or glass pipes bring to mind the shapes of intimate body parts. The series can be organised and arranged into many different configurations. Gomulicki spins a highly subtle narrative about erotica, fulfilment, intimate play, and sensuality.
