Description

Magdalena Starska works with various media, using them in a very fluid way. Installations, performances, and sculpture often interlock and evolve, and her drawings are often difficult to call autonomous artifacts. Her works create a coherent world in which art is a component of time and space. The work of Magdalena Starska is grounded in materials from close at hand. She uses simple objects to affirm everyday actions or sensations. She also uses fleeting phenomena, such as flashing lights or materials that alter our state of concentration. The drawings in the collections were created during the preparation of an exhibition project. They are drawn on burnt pieces of fabric – “ordinary” materials, ones found in every person's daily life. The project was developed for several months, culminating in the gallery space: it began with the artist lighting a bonfire and burning fabric, which she then used to create spatial installations and drawings.
